Funded by donations from individuals, local businesses and government bodies
Flood resilience work is included irrespective of being fully insured

The Environment Agency is urging owners of properties damaged in last month’s Cumbria floods to insist that insurers repair their homes and businesses to be more flood-resilient.

Key Points
Ground investigation, survey, and design activities are all underway and it is anticipated that wall replacing and strengthening works on the River Cocker will commence in mid-February 2010.

The full investigation of current level of flood risk for the whole of Cockermouth will commence in April 2010.

Welcome to the Cockermouth Flood Action Group

The Cockermouth Flood Action Group was set up in response to the 2005 floods and has been working with the agencies responsible for flood prevention in the local area to achieve reductions to the flood risk in the area. The group has been proactive since the devastating floods of November 19th 2009. The group has held three meetings and has grown significantly in membership. The group now includes residents that have and have not been flooded, representatives from the business and farming community and retired and non retired professionals.
